Make a Game of it: How Gamification
Can Help Make Your Next Event a Success
Say you are planning a Conference and really want to get
attendees involved in the conversation. Gamification,
which is just what it sound like--implementing gaming elements
into presentations--adds a competitive aspect that attendees
respond well to.
Points, levels, or simple recognition are all ways to encourage
engagement of your attendees. Just make sure the gaming
components you include are meaningful. They should align
with and reflect the overall theme and mission of the
Conference.
Here are some tips to keep in mind:
1. Make it Count- know the purpose of the game. Of course
you want to get your attendees involved, but why? Is it to
increase awareness of a particular issue or is it to get them to
modify their practices? Knowing what results you're looking for
will help determine an appropriate gaming element.
2. Presentation- what works for one business may not work for
another. Don't choose a gaming mechanism that doesn't fit
with your company's overall tone.
3. Keep it simple- you don't want to overwhelm your guests with
too many rules and have them miss the point. Make your 'game'
easy to play to ensure your attendees have fun while
accomplishing the goal of the event.
